Better than Settlers
July 21, 2011

I have been an avid Settlers of Catan player for almost a decade. I have almost worn out my original Catan set playing it so much. There was a time when my wife, friend and I would sit down an play three games of catan in one evening. With all that said I think I like Elasund more than Settlers of Catan. Here's why:

Elasund is 2 player - this lets my wife and I play it together.

Elasund is not as luck based - I get so irritated when I build up on 6's and 8's in Settlers and still lose. With Elasund, there is a small luck element, but you always have the option of taking two gold on your turn so there is none of this my numbers didn't roll so I can't do anything scenario like there is in Settlers.

Elasund is more cut throat - I like that you can cut people down to size in Elasund by building over their smaller buildings. The lead can be taken away so quickly it makes it fun.

If you like a game with different options to win that is competitive and often very close in scoring I think you will like Elasund.

Better than Settlers of Catan

I find this game better than the original Settlers of Catan because it is more cut throat and less luck. If you like strategy and lots of options I think you will like this game.

Great game for two!
August 30, 2006

My wife and I have really enjoyed this game. It made a great first impression with the quality bits and beautiful art direction. Gameplay-wise we really had fun. The nature of the game is to develop property within the city walls of Elasund. Smaller buildings can be torn down and replaced with bigger ones (typically you replace a smaller building of your opponent with a larger building of your own!) Two player games can sometimes be a little quiet but not this one - duking it out with your opponent over property makes for some devilsh fun.

It has room for several strategies, with a bit of randomness thrown in - which we think helps make the game interesting and replayable.

My wife - a non-gamer - actually requests this one now.
