I was shocked as I went to order a new game of Bridgette for a Xmas gift that a review gave it only two stars and dismissed it as an introduction to contract bridge. This game is in the Games Magazine Hall of Fame for a good reason. It is a classic two handed games which is great to play whether you ever play Contract bridge of not. I am glad that we can finally get this game in plastic cards; my past editions are worn due to constant play. My last review of this game was in 1999, I have played this game for years and have never been tired of it.
This game has received it's share of praise, Games Hall of Fame and alike. It doesn't need any words from this humble gamer. All I can say is that it has provided me with some of the best hours of gaming and has never failed to be a fun and challenging diversion. Bridge players MUST play this game. Anyone who likes commercial card games who have not at least given this a try have kept themselves from the best of breed.
Bridgette has been around for a long, long time, and has received accolades from many of the top bridge players and writers in the world. It takes the basic mechanics of four-handed bridge, and modifies them in a way that makes for a surprisingly good two-handed game. The main differences from the original include special bids that let players know some of their opponent's holdings, special colon cards that are used strategically to force a change in suits, and the exchange, where players can improve their initial hands. While intended for serious bridge players, the instructions include enough of a primer on basic bridge strategy for beginners to enjoy the game as well.
While the game's designer tinkered with the rules for over 25 years, Bridgette has settled down to become a true classic. Highly recommended.
