Very Fun

Carcassonne: This is another game made by the company Rio Grande Games. The game is all about building the French city Carcassonne and placing different types of followers on the game board, gaining points for completing different segments in the city: Farms, Cities, Roads and Churches. Like many games, Carcassonne has many different expansions that build to the complexity of the game. This game is one that is LOVED by my family, and played on a regular basis.

Like many people, I love to play strategy games. In the past, I have been into Catan, Ticket to Ride, Canasta, and various others. I find it difficult to purchase a new game until I have played it, or heard a lot of positive remarks for a game; however, I often get tired of playing the same games over and over. For this reason, I decided to venture out and try Carcassonne. With Carcassonne, comes the opportunity to purchase several additions tom make the game more challenging and more complex. Catapult is one of these expansions. Catapult is possibly my most favorite expansion. With this expansion a traveling salesman took a catapult to carcassonne. Because the people could use the catapult in many ways, the game offers multiple ways players too can use it. The catapult adds a little fun and silliness to the game.

PROS:

  • Catapult: This game comes with a wooden catapult that is fun to use. Players take turns shooting pieces to the game board. A real hoot.
  • More tiles: As with the other expansions, this adds tiles to make the game more interesting. 12 tiles are added to the game, which means more cities, bigger roads, etc. One of the road tiles makes for a pretty interesting road—worth more points.
  • Time: With this expansion and Carcassonne, the game is still pretty short: approx 30 minutes.

Cons:

  • Aim: Beware; the catapult is hard to aim.
  • Pieces: The pieces are growing, just be careful not to lose anything.

I have enjoyed playing this expansion. The catapult is pretty cool!
