Each player is a Chinese emperor trying to gain connections to other villages to increase his standing in the land. To do so, you lay sticks from your corner starting area across the board, claiming Yin-Yang cubes which can be turned in for cards if you have matching pairs. The cards show special actions (lay two sticks, take two cubes from someone else, etc.) and tasks, which require you to connect two villages with your home area.
The stick-laying has elements of TransAmerica and its Vexation expansion as anyone can use the brown sticks when tracing paths to villages, but each player has a half-dozen colored sticks that only he can walk. Players score points for completed tasks and pairs of Yin-Yang cubes at the end of the game, while losing points for uncompleted tasks.
As with all Yun Games titles, KaiZa is released in an edition of 200 copies.
