Easy to learn, simple to play, Telestrations is the hilarious sketch and guess party game that offers up instant fun and laughter! Includes 2,400 entertaining words from "cheeseburger" to "love handles".
My sister bought this game for our family to play during Thanksgiving. Normally I am a little wary of off-the-shelf games because they tend to be formulaic and a bit monotonous. This game proved me wrong.
The game begins with everyone receiving a dry-erase pad with 8 pages, a dry erase marker and a word card listing 6 words corresponding with numbers on the die. Someone rolls the die, announces the number and all players then refer to their card to see what word they got. They write the word down on the first page, flip the page and then hand the pad to the player on one side of them, receiving a pad from the player on the other side of them. The player then has to draw the word they received. Then flip the page and pass the pad. On the next pad they receive, they look at the previous page to see what was drawn and guess what the word is. Write it down. Pass the pad.
So you alternate between drawing a word and guessing the word based on a drawing. Once all pads have made it back to their original players, the gap between the beginning word and the ending word is revealed.
Our family took turns showing their pads, flipping each page so we could all see how the transformation from "daughter" to "mitochondria" took place. Fingers were pointed, lame explanations were given and lots of laughter occured.
There is a timer and a point system but we didn't bother with either. We did discover that the more difficult the words, the crappier the drawers we became. And the worse the drawings, the bigger the distortion. And of course the bigger the distortion the funnier the game became. Which to us, is a great advantage over Pictionary - a game where if you are stuck with a terrible drawer on your team, you are handicapped for the entire game. WIth this game, everyone gets a crack at a terrible drawing or guess and all players are constantly participating.
Great party game (for up to 8 people) and good for most ages! LOVED IT!
This game is terrific fun! The idea is that each person gets a word or phrase, sketches the word, passes to the next person who guesses what was drawn, and passes the booklet to the next who sketches the word they see, etc. until the first person has the booklet back again. We use the timer so that sketches are fast (and therefore not exactly accurate or detailed) and pass the book. Our family of eight played this on a cruise and within minutes, everyone in the game room wanted the name of the game. It was such fun to see things morph. Scoring is supposed to be based upon successfully getting the word at the end, but that takes the fun out of it, I think. We went for laughter (and resulting tears of laughter). This is best with eight players. We switched the spots where we entered the word and the name of the player on the first page, so subsequent players did not see the word we started with accidentally.
OMG! This is possibly the best game ever! I can remember playing the telephone game as a kid for many a recess and laughing hysterically at how silly the stories would get. But this takes it to a whole new level!
Love the dry erase sketchbooks, much better than using lots and lots of paper! There are two different scoring game mechanics to this game: a friendly version where everyone gets to award points or the more competitive where the success of written & drawn communication determine points. But really the best win is all the laughing. Although this is age graded for 13+ we played with our 10 year old and her friends, and their skills added a whole new twist to the game, as did her grandma's!!!
We have had so much fun playing this game that I think I am going to give it to a few family and friends as gifts this year, just to ensure that when I go over to visit I know its there and we can play! This game should become the new game that you bring to other people's houses and parties, its that much fun!
