Product Description

Space Hulk is a lavish board game that allows two players to recreate exciting combat missions fought between Space Marine Terminators and Genestealers. It is the game of man versus alien in desperate battle.

Space hulks are ruinous space-faring vessels, formed from the wreckage of dozens of ruined starships, asteroids and chunks of space debris. Directionless and set adrift these derelict masses drift through the Imperium, posing a dire threat to the star systems they enter. Space hulks often harbor alien life, and none so dangerous as the monstrous Genestealers -- swift and deadly aliens whose claws can shred armor plates, and whose vile nature is anathema to Mankind.

Dangerous though they are, space hulks are too valuable to simply destroy. The vessels that have been crushed together to form their ponderous bulk are often rare and ancient, and untold treasures of technology from ages past can be found aboard them. So it is that the Space Marines are called upon to investigate these space hulks. Clad in suits of powerful Terminator armor and equipped with deadly weapons, the Space Marines heroically board these giant space wrecks, prepared to do battle with the Genestealers to achieve their objectives.

Space Hulk contains twelve tense missions, each with a different objective. During play one player takes the role of the Space Marines, while the other controls the Genestealers. Once the game is over, the players can change sides and play the mission again, seeing who has the best tactics.

The Space Hulk boxed game contains everything you need to enjoy countless hours of fun, from stunning Citadel miniatures, eye-catching tokens and counters, to a lavish board made up of more than sixty hard-wearing and intricately detailed sections.

One of the graetest games ever invented
November 05, 2003

I bought this game nearly 15 years ago. First the basic set and thereafter two expansions and the campaign book. Me and my friends spent many many hours playing game after game. This game is very easy and quick to learn. No game is like ehe other. The atmosphere is tense and exciting, its really man versus alien in desperate battle. The only thing which could be mentioned negativly is the price but you get lots of stuff and the figures look even better when they get painted.

Everbody who interested in a fast and exciting 'table-top' combat game should take the chance and get a copy of this really great game from games workshop. (And dont be afraid you dont need to buy houndreds of figures as needed in other table-top-games. The ones included are fully sufficient.) So get your storm-bolters ready and have no fear.

Great game
February 28, 2003

I have both versions and all the expansions from the earlier version. Either one is a lot of fun and tense. I have played many games that come down to the last die roll to see who wins. Of the two versions although the 2nd edition looks better the first plays better. In the 1st edition your marines are under a time constraint and it's fun to watch people who aren't quick on their feet sweat and panic. Also the two expansions add a wealth of new options. The basic game is an all out attack on the alien genestealers who have no weapons. They try to overcome you through sheer numbers and speed { hence the time limit on the marines only } With the first expansion you not only get rules for solo adventuring you also get rules for new type of marines. Captains who can give you extra moves and fire power { and extra time }Lightning Claws { marines who can rip through genestealer armored hide } Thunder Hammers and psychers. If you manage to get your hands on a copy of ' Genestealer ' Then the game takes on a whole new dynamic. You are no longer against an enemy without weapons and you also have to contend with powerful genestealer psychers and possibly the big daddy of the them all, the Patiarch. I have yet to play a game that captures the feel of tension the way Space Hulk does. You may have to pay upwards of a $100 to get this game but I feel it's well worth it.

Fairly good tactical wargame
January 30, 2004

Space Hulk is one of those great games that can captivate you for hours. Although its mechanics are simplistic in the likes of Warhammer 40K, the tabletop wargame that shares the same setting, Space Hulk is good particular because it can be played in a relatively short amount of time (sometimes the setup can be annoying) and does not get bogged down with Warhammer's complexity. The game revolves around fighting inside derelict space crafts or 'space hulks', as they are called. The space marine forces board the crafts and basically 'go to town' on the vile genestealer hoards contained within. There are certain eccentricities within the game however that make it somewhat quirky to play on a regular basis, namely the overhwhelming advantage of the space marines forces. Playing as the genestealers is nearly suicide-even though your forces are greater in number they die twice as fast. But I suppose if you're really determined, with a little luck and good planning you might win as the purple hoard; but don't say I didn't warn you. All in all though it's a great game that provides entertainment and contains several different scenarios to indulge the gamer, each with a special objective for either side. The game includes 10 space marine terminator Citadel miniatures (which if you play Warhammer 40K is an added bonus) and about 30 genestealers. The rules are simple, fun and easy to learn. You really can't go wrong with this one.
