Product Description

Just when you think you've seen every possible twist on Age of Steam expansions, along comes something new that blows away all your expectations. Age of Steam: The Zombie Apocalypse is a new expansion by designer Michael Webb that will be released the first week of October 2009.

The expansion, which will be packed in a clamshell box, contains a double-sided, card stock gameboard, with a map of Michigan (for 3 players) on one side and Western Pennsylvania (for 4-5 players) on the other. Goods are seeded on cities and towns at the start of the game, then zombies are seeded on the board as well. (They have six possible graveyards from which to start moving.) Says Webb, "The zombies, from that point, shamble in a deterministic way toward the goods cubes that are nearest to them. When they get to locations that have them, that spot is razed (indicated with an upside-down track tile), the cubes are removed from it, and the spot then functions as a colourless city for the rest of the game. More zombies also spawn each time a location is razed, and there is no way for players to eliminate them from the map, so things get more and more out of hand as the game progresses."

Naturally zombies raise the cost of building track and shipping. (You have to hire extra guys with guns to hold them back, n'est-ce pas?) Says Webb, "It's quite a difficult expansion and requires even more forward-planning than standard Age of Steam. The Michigan map is particularly brutal because of its small size."

The game includes a special income/action chart and thirty plastic zombies, courtesy of Twilight Creations, creator of all things zombie.
