The game's theme is about a cat wanting to be an artist. I'm not sure how this comes across in the card play, but it does give the designer a chance to put paw prints on everything, so that has to count for something. In any case, Tanabe describes Nyanko-Artist as a simple card game in which players take turns playing a single card onto one of three face-up piles of cards. If you meet the right conditions, you'll draw more cards; if not, your hand size will drop, and if it hits two or fewer, you'll receive a penalty card.
