Since 2006 Ted Alspach at Bézier Games has released one or more expansions for Age of Steam (and starting in 2008 Steam) annually. He's ready to have another go at the AoS/Steam game systems in 2010, and this year gamers will benefit from the financial trouble in Greece and elsewhere in Europe.
Says Alspach, "Thanks to the slightly stronger dollar, I'm able to offer three new top-quality mounted expansions at the same price as the non-mounted ones that were out last year. The preorder price is $75, which is $40 off the regular price." Bézier Games' Essen 2010 Map Pack, already available for preorder through Bézier Games, will also include a bonus seventh map. As for what's printed on those mounted game boards, Alspach has released only the following information for now:
Expansion 1 (mounted) consists of two historically-accurate scenarios that took place in the mid 1800's in North America. Both have signature Bézier Games' twists on standard AoS/Steam end game goals: One changes the winning conditions entirely, while the other adds a new layer of strategy to the delivery phase.
Expansion 2 (mounted) has two maps that take place in real world locations, on two different continents new to Bézier Games' AoS/Steam expansions. One contains a virtual market that determines the value of deliveries, while the other is a race against resource depletion.
Expansion 3 (mounted) contains two designed-specifically-for-the-game "island" maps. One is a perfectly symmetrical three-player-only map while the other is one of the most challenging maps ever devised for Steam/Age of Steam.
Alspach plans to release more details about the expansions in the coming weeks, and says that preorders will ship October 2010, "at least one month before it is available in online stores or through retailers."
