Route 66 triggers special associations for those in the U.S., even those who know nothing about the route itself other than that in the late 1980s Depeche Mode remade an existing song about the highway into a fun dance track. (I'm speaking from personal experience here, in case you couldn't tell.) What are the special highways outside the U.S.? Which roads trigger emotions and nostalgia from residents of a certain age?
Nationale 7 between Paris and Côte d'Azur is one such route, with cartoonist Thierry Dubois running a website devoted to the road's history and sights and covering even more such material on his blog. French publisher Blackrock Editions is now releasing a family game themed around Nationale 7 with illustrations by Dubois: Lapalisse – Nationale 7. Here's a translated description of the game from the publisher:
While driving your car, you want to traverse the country with skill and without congestion. But caught in a flood of cars, you can take advantage of your unexpected visit to Lapalisse to eat, do some shopping or even visit the castle. To win, you'll need great skill and anticipation to be the first to continue your journey on the famous Nationale 7.
