French publisher Cocktail Games releases the most ridiculous games on the market – and I don't mean that in a bad way. Rather, it's impossible to guess what you'll see next in those little square tins, other than to assume that the game will embarass those who prefer more staid gaming activities.
In July 2010, for example, Cocktail Games will release Photo Party from Marc Tabourin and Laurent Escoffier. The game includes 46 challenge cards, and players need to supply their own camera, preferably one with a timer. One player is the photographer, and she selects a dozen challenge cards based on where the game is taking place and who is participating.
What are players challenged to do? Jump in the air, dance the cancan, hide their heads, and so on – players must do these actions specifically when the photo is taken, but thanks to the timer they won't know exactly when that is, so they're encouraged to act like goofballs for far longer than necessary. Once all the photos are finished, the photographer (and players) review the images, whether on the camera, on Flicker or elsewhere, and everyone who met a particular challenge scores one point for that card. Whoever scores the most points wins.
