Lookout Games has added another title to its list of Spiel 2010 releases: Poseidon, by Helmet Ohley and Leonhard Orgler. Lookout describes Poseidon, which is subtitled "1800 vor Christus", as a typical 18xx railroad game – yet one without rails, tiles or trains since the game is set in an earlier millennium:
Two to five players act as leaders of different peoples and command them to explore, send out fleets, build trading posts, and generate the highest possible profit. Poseidon contains most of the basics of 18xx games and due to the relatively short running time of two hours is as suitable for 18xx-newbies who want to explore this wonderful world as it is for experienced train gamers.
Note that the cover shown above is only a stand-in for now.
Update, Sept. 21, 2010: Lookout's Hanno Girke has noted in a BoardGameGeek thread that Z-Man Games will also release Poseidon. Z-Man's Zev Shlasinger says that he expects the game to be available in the U.S. in November 2010.
