Stronghold Games has already announced new editions of two highly regarded and long out-of-print games – Code 777 and Confusion, as reported on BGN in Feb. 2010. For the company's third release, yet another classic game will be returning to store shelves: Julian Courtland-Smith's Survive!, which sold nearly 1.5 million copies worldwide, according to the press release from Stronghold.
In fact, Stronghold Games has obtained the rights to all versions of Survive! that have seen print, the other versions being Escape from Atlantis and Atlantis, and the new game will be titled Survive: Escape from Atlantis! to honor the game's history. Here's a game description from the publisher:
In Survive: Escape from Atlantis!, players are tasked with escaping from an island that is slowly sinking into the sea. Players control a number of stranded citizens who must escape to islands surrounding Atlantis. Along the way they can be helped by boats or dolphins, but danger lurks everywhere! Sea monsters, whales and sharks can stand in the way of escape. The island sinks in a different way each game, so players must adjust their strategy from game to game. Head for the high ground if you must, but be prepared to make a desperate swim for safety!
Survive: Escape from Atlantis!, due out Q4 2010, will use the original rules from Survive!, with optional elements from the other versions of the game. As noted on the press release, "This edition will benefit from the direct input of the original designer, Julian Courtland-Smith."
Stronghold Games holds the rights to Survive: Escape from Atlantis! in all languages and invites publishers who want to license the game in languages other than English to contact managing director Kevin Nesbitt.
