Michelle Schanen's Geistertreppe, published by Drei Magier Spiele, won Germany's game of the year award for children in 2004. In Geistertreppe, the players' pawns would be transformed into ghosts, with players needing to remember which identical-looking ghost was theirs so they could race it to the top of the stairs and win.
In September 2010, Drei Magier Spiele will publish a sequel of sorts – Geistertreppe: Das Kartenspiel – which comes from designer Jacques Zeimet. Here's a brief description from the publisher:
Is this the red child here or the yellow one? As if by magic, the children change places again and again. It is important to remember who is hiding where, and whoever doesn't concentrate will have little chance to win in the end.
Update, Oct. 29, 2010: French publisher Gigamic has released a version of this game under the title L'escalier hanté: Le Jeu de Cartes, which is not nearly as scary-sounding as Geistertreppe. Here's a link to the game page on Gigamic's website.
