Product Description

For heroes who bask in darkness.

The Shadowfell is a cold, grim place through which the spirits of the dead must pass on their way to... wherever. Dark, evil things live there, suffused with the power of shadow. Some mortals in the natural world learn how to tap into this source. Assassins. Necromancers. Hexblades. By all accounts, a ruthless lot. However, not all beings that draw strength from the Shadowfell are vile, blackhearted fiends. A few even dare to call themselves heroes, using the power of darkness to fight darkness. Are they evil? No. Deeply disturbed and hounded by their own dark demons? You bet.

Player's Options Heroes of Shadow focusses on characters that fight evil in ways that make others cringe. In addition to exploring the nature of the shadow power source, this book presents races, classes, feats, powers, and other options aimed at players hungry to play the archetypical antihero with a dark edge.

A Gem for Anyone Who Is New to Table-Top RPGs!
November 18, 2001

If, like me, you have heard of Dungeons & Dragons many times, but have never had chance to learn what it's all about, then this is the one to start with! It's great for beginners who are new to hardcore RPG systems. The rules in this boxed set are slightly simplified in order to allow the new player to understand the powerful 'd20' system which it uses.

Please note: This boxed set is NOT for advanced players. They will probably find it dull and too simple. It's aimed at pure beginners only!

You get a pack of 6 dice (which are weird!), a huge dungeon map, pre-generated characters, a nice selection of monsters and an adventure book containing 6 mini-adventures. Once you understand it and have played all 6 mini-adventures included in the pack, then you will need to buy the 3rd Edition Players Handbook, and eventually the other two core books (3rd Edition Dungeon Master's Guide and 3rd Edition Monster Manual), if you are to progress further.

All in all, it's a fantastic gaming system which brings new delights the deeper you look into it. It's so flexible, that you can even twist it slightly and add your own little rules if you please!

The gaming doesn't stop at fantasy games, either. The clever boys at Wizards Of The Coast (the writers), have made the d20 system an open gaming system, which means anyone can write adventures for it! Basically, there are more genres out there, such as Sci-Fi, Cyberpunk, Pirates, Horror, etc.

If you are looking for something a little different from traditional board games and something more complex and involving, then this is a must buy! It won't be long before you are calling your friends around to play it. I give it full marks.

BUY IT NOW!

Ive been playing RPGs for some 9 Years. I invited a bunch of my friends over who had never even played a tabletop RPG before. I took the role of DM and they were the Players. In brief they went through the puzzles and challenges like a hot knife through butter.

Yes, Its a great game for beginners but those beginners need to be somewhere around 1st grade to have a fun challenge with this module. Overall I think the game had weak challenges but a strong sure way of teaching the game.
