Product Description

Prince John is coming to Nottingham! Players, in the role of merchants, see this as an opportunity to make quick profits by selling goods in the bustling city during the Prince's visit. However, players must first get their goods through the city gate, which is under the watch of the Sheriff of Nottingham. Should you play it safe with legal goods and make a profit, or risk it all by sneaking in illicit goods? Be mindful, though, as the Sheriff always has his eyes out for liars and tricksters and if he catches one, he very well may confiscate those goods for himself!

In Sheriff of Nottingham, players will not only be able to experience Nottingham as a merchant of the city, but each turn one player will step into the shoes of the Sheriff himself. Players declare goods they wish to bring into the city, goods that are secretly stored in their burlap sack. The Sheriff must then determine who gets into the city with their goods, who gets inspected, and who may have their goods confiscated!

Do you have what it takes to be seen as an honest merchant? Will you make a deal with the Sheriff to let you in? Or will you persuade the Sheriff to target another player while you quietly slip by the gate? Declare your goods, negotiate deals, and be on the lookout for the Sheriff of Nottingham!

Sheriff of Nottingham is the first game in the Dice Tower Essentials Line from Arcane Wonders.

Bluffing, Bribing Money Making Fun!
October 05, 2015

Sheriff of Nottingham is tons of fun. It is super easy to teach and play and takes very little time to set up. Although I have only played with 3 players (the minimum) it is still tons of fun every time. You play a merchant trying to bring goods into their market but must first get everything you are bringing past the sheriff (in a colored bag, which corresponds to each merchants colors)

The sheriff can choose whether or not to look in your bag, but players may also bribe the sheriff to look the other way. (you can even bribe the sheriff to look in other merchant's bags)

For such an easy and simple game (collect the most money to win) this is really a home run game.

There is also a companion app which helps makes sure negotiations with the sheriff don't last longer than they should.

I highly recommend this game, the only reason it took me so long to get it is because I typically only have 1 other player so we held off on all 3 player minimum games until we found a solid playgroup. Now this one will be a regular because it can be done within 40 mins, providing time for another game (play again or play something else) as well as also providing plenty of fun which typically ends with "Let's play that again!"

Sheriff of Nottingham video review

Sheriff of Nottingham is a bluffing, negotiation-type card game. Each round, players try to work their way past the Sheriff in order to get their goods into the market (legal or contraband). The Sheriff will question each player and determine whether to let them pass or not. If you’re telling the truth you have nothing to fear, but if you get caught lying… the punishment could be severe!
