Product Description

Pairs is a “New Classic Pub Game” designed by James Ernest and Paul Peterson. It’s a simple press-your luck card game with no winner, just one loser. The deck is 55 cards, numbered 1 through 10, with 1x1, 2x2, 3x3, and so on up to 10x10. It’s simple, fast, and fun.

The Faen Deck is based on “The Name of the Wind,” by fantasy author Patrick Rothfuss, and contains many characters from that universe, illustrated by fantasy artist Nate Taylor. The deck also contains the rules for a bonus game, Hawthorn, a strategic Pairs variant for 2 to 6 players.

Quick, fun, and simple
December 10, 2017
Pairs is a nice, simple press-your-luck card game that can be learned in five minutes. It's something like blackjack, in that most of the mental exercise comes from deciding how much of a risk to take based on the information in front of you and your memory of what's happened before. While Pairs is more of a "Hoyle game" than a hobby game, you need a special deck of cards to play. There's a free Pairs Companion PDF you can download that gives additional games you can play with the same special deck. One note about the Faen Deck in particular: there is a looooot of nudity on these cards. None of it is what you'd call explicit, and I personally wasn't offended*, but I wouldn't play using this deck in a public place like a restaurant or bar. * Well, one of the sevens has a creepy leering guy on it who looks like his head was Photoshopped on, but that's not quite the same kind of "offended."
