Product Description

Ambition and a thirst for wealth have driven humanity to strive for ever greater progress. In America, during the 19th century, battles were waged between huge railway corporations that sought to connect state to state and coast with coast… making themselves filthy rich in the process.

Railroad Revolution drops you straight into the middle of these tempestuous years; a time that changed America forever. In Railroad Revolution, you will manage your own railroad company, ruthlessly competing to be the most powerful railroad tycoon across all America.

You will build railroads, establish stations in your connected cities, expand the network of telegraph lines, and chase your objectives, increasing the value of your company with every action you take.

You start with mainly a team of non-specialized workers, but during the game you can hire additional ones with specific skill sets. The cost or effect of an action is determined by the type of worker that does it.

To complete your company objectives, you will have to remove some of your workers from your active pool, promoting them to managerial positions.

You must carefully assign each of your workers to perform the right action at the right time in order to exploit their specializations in the best way. You need to decide which ones to promote and which are instead still needed to take actions, as your priorities will change from turn to turn.

Railroad Revolution is a fast paced game with relatively simple rules, and it provides you with interesting and challenging decisions. Having a good strategy and finding the correct timing to implement it, is the key to winning the game.

Telegraph run!
February 14, 2017

Everybody starts the game in the same conditions. Workers, money, trains and shares. Only difference it's a starting bonus, no real difference.

What to do next? Well, you have just 4 actions. These are never blocked, cause you place workers on your own board and can repeat the same action all the times you want. But, you can get different color workers that provides bonus to each of the actions. So which way to go? Milestones. You start the game with 2 Milestones to achieve. Requiring to set stations on certain level cities or place rails on certain terrains. And to upgrade a worker to be placed on the Milestone and loose it. Achieving a Milestone let's you pick a new one, that gives more points but have more requirements. May be more of the same of your previous Milestones. There are a lot of points here, but they cost money and workers. Performance tracks. These 3 tracks gives you points for your placed Telegraph offices, train stations and level 5 connected cities. So here is the trick. Placing a Telegraph office gives you shares, that you can use as money and for taking Deals, that are very good bonuses. Also gives points directly. And in the performance track you can increase these points. And above all, placing a Telegraph office is free! So go here or get ready to loose. Other track gives you points for placed Train Stations. You can get some points here, but nothing flashy. Last track is for level 5 cities connected. Big points here. Go here too! Also you get points for Trains owned face-up at the end of the game. You can flip them up and down for bonus actions and for end of game points. In my opinion, there is one strategy that gives a lot of sure points. Telegraph and level 5 cities. If all players do this, the difference will be set by Milestones and Trains. Also making the game shorter. In the long game Milestones are very powerful but at a high cost. It's a very enjoyable game with good choices. But some forced ones.
