In Lunatix Loop players attempt to be the first racer to complete three laps around "The Loop" while attempting to keep their cars in one piece.
Not Your Ordinary Race Game
Players must choose one of four actions each round. They may Ram an opponent, Accelerate, Brake, or Drop oil, tacks or glue on the board. When choosing their action, players must balance the need to get out in front of the pack (and therefore be winning the game) with the desire to to stay behind the pack (and therefore be safe from the rams of opposing cars). Players then move around the track by moving 1 square for every 10 m.p.h. of their car's current speed.
Each car can take damage throughout the course of the game. The more damage a car takes from opponents and from hazards, the slower it can go. If a player's car gets too damaged, he may want to kick in the Turbo drive -- but it's risky -- it can explode! Or, a player may decide to drop into the Pit Stop for repairs and new gadgets -- but this may cost valuable time.
Players who fall behind may want to take the corners over their safe speed -- but they should watch out -- cars may skid into the wall, take tire damage, or develop "Lunacies" when they whip around the curves too fast. If players save up some Luck, however, this may not be a problem.
If a car gets too far out ahead, however, players may litter the track with Oil, Tacks and Glue making the leader's next lap hazardous. The leader also becomes the designated target for many Rams. Because of these tradeoffs, Lunatix Loop is a risk management game.
The actions that the players choose each turn also influence the player order. For example, a player may decide to Accelerate, so that he moves after another player who might have otherwise tried to Ram him if he had chosen to Brake. Because of this, bluff can also be a tactical element in the game.
