You indicated that (paraphrasing) badges at Origins were not important. I bid to differ. Badges are important at cons for several reasons:
1. Entry ribbons (War Room, Board Room, etc) are attached to them allowing access to certain areas/events.
2. Dealers look at them when you walk up and call you by your first name, which lends a touch of friendliness to your business transaction. GMT is especially good at this. I know they don't know me from Adam, but calling me by my first name makes me feel like I am one of their special customers.
3. Lastly, and most importantly for me, it's the easiest and most efficient way to meet new gamers and re-acquaint myself with those I only see once a year. I run lots of multiplayer boardgames each year in the War Room and many of those who come to play I only see once a year. Having a name badge lets me remember them and helps me keep a game moving.
